🔥🗝️ Pothos ‘Skeleton Key’ / Epipremnum pinnatum ‘Skeleton Key’ 🗝️🔥
Also known as: Skeleton Key Pothos, Epipremnum ‘Skeleton Key’
This striking pothos is famous for its unique leaf shape — mature leaves develop deep lobes and a narrow, key-like tip, giving the plant its distinctive name. Juvenile leaves start simple, but with time and proper climbing support, they transform into dramatic “skeleton key” forms.
💡 Care Tips:
☀️ Light – Bright, indirect light is best. Can tolerate medium light, but mature “skeleton key” shapes are more likely with stronger light. Avoid harsh direct sun, which can scorch the leaves.
💧 Water – Water when the top 1–2 inches of soil dry out. Likes evenly moist but well-draining soil. Overwatering is the most common issue.
🌡️ Humidity – Prefers moderate to high humidity (50%+). Average household conditions are fine, but higher humidity encourages larger leaves. Best in temps of 65–85°F (18–29°C).
🌱 Growth – Fast-growing trailing or climbing vine. With support (moss pole, wood plank), leaves enlarge and develop their iconic “skeleton key” shape.
📊 Difficulty: Easy to Intermediate (forgiving, but needs good light and a climbing structure for its mature look).
🐾 Pet Safety: Toxic if ingested. Contains calcium oxalate crystals which can irritate the mouth, throat, and stomach. All pets are unique and reactions may vary in symptoms and severity.
🌟 Collector’s Tip:
Provide a strong climbing surface and bright, indirect light for the most dramatic fenestrations. Rotate regularly and prune leggy vines to keep growth full and even.
