๐ฅ๐ฟ Satin Pothos / Scindapsus pictus (SIN-daps-us PIK-tus) ๐ฟ๐ฅ
Also known as: Satin Pothos, Silver Pothos, Silver Vine, Scindapsus pictus โArgyraeusโ
This sleek and silvery climber steals the show with dark green, heart-shaped leaves flecked or marbled with silver patches โ almost like moonlight dancing across velvet. It trails beautifully or climbs if given support, turning into a lush drapey cascade or jungle-vibe vine.
๐ก Care Tips:
โ๏ธ Light โ Bright, indirect light is best. Variegation (silver patches) stays crisp in good light; too much direct sun scorches leaves, too little light causes the silvery patterns to fade.
๐ง Water โ Water when the top 1โ2 inches of soil are dry. Avoid soggy soil and overwatering; these lead to yellowing leaves and root rot. During lower light or cooler seasons, let it dry a little more between waterings.
๐ก๏ธ Humidity โ Prefers moderate to high humidity. It handles average household humidity, but added humidity (mist, pebble tray, humidifier) helps keep leaf edges healthy.
๐ฑ Growth โ Slow to moderate growing vine. Can trail from a shelf or hang, or climb with aerial roots. Prune to maintain bushiness or manage length. Repot every 1โ2 years when roots fill the pot.
๐ Difficulty: Beginner-to-Intermediate (forgiving, but sensitive to overwatering, overly dry air, or neglect of light quality).
๐พ Pet Safety: Toxic if ingested. Contains insoluble calcium oxalate crystals which can irritate the mouth, throat, and stomach. All pets are unique and reactions may vary in symptoms and severity.
๐ Collectorโs Tip:
To show off the silver splashes at their best, give it bright indirect light and avoid soggy soil. Training it to climb (on a moss pole or driftwood) encourages larger leaves and better silver contrast.
