A crown jewel in the aroid world, Philodendron gloriosum is adored for its enormous, velvety heart-shaped leaves etched with glowing white to pink veins. Unlike climbing philodendrons, this species creeps along the soil surface, sending out bold foliage as it grows horizontally. Native to the rainforests of Colombia, it brings a regal, almost otherworldly presence to any collection.

💡 Care Tips:

☀️ Light – Thrives in bright, indirect light. Too little light slows growth and reduces vein contrast; too much direct sun may burn the velvety leaves.

💧 Water – Keep soil evenly moist but never soggy. This plant will be shipped to you in our homemade semi-hydro set up! (Sphagnum Moss, pumice, orchid bark & biochar for anti-compaction/aeration, fungal mitigation above a LECA-clay balls- water reservoir). You can transition to whatever medium you like best, Chunky Aroid mix is a great option! Once transitioned- less is more! Allow the top 2-3 inches to dry between waterings.

🌡️ Humidity – Prefers high humidity (60–80%). Dry air can lead to browning edges. Best in temps of 65–85°F (18–29°C).
🌱 Growth – Creeping (not climbing) philodendron with a rhizomatous growth habit. Mature leaves can grow over 18 inches wide indoors with proper care. Slow to moderate grower.

📊 Difficulty: Intermediate (forgiving once settled but sensitive to neglect or inconsistent conditions).

🐾 Pet Safety: Toxic if ingested. Contains calcium oxalate crystals which can irritate the mouth, throat, and stomach. All pets are unique and reactions may vary in symptoms and severity.

🌟 Collector’s Tip:
This is a horizontal grower — give its rhizome space to crawl across a wide planter instead of a deep one. The more space it has to stretch, the bigger and more glorious its leaves become. A mossy top layer can help keep the rhizome hydrated and happy, mimicking its rainforest floor habitat.
