๐Ÿ’šโœจ Anthurium clarinervium โœจ๐Ÿ’š
(pronounced โ€œan-THUR-ee-um klar-ih-NER-vee-umโ€)
Also known as Velvet Cardboard Anthurium or Anthurium of Chiapas.

Native to the limestone cliffs of Chiapas, Mexico, Anthurium clarinervium is a true botanical jewel prized for its thick, heart-shaped leaves and dramatic white veining. The deep emerald foliage has a velvety, almost suede-like texture that feels sculpted rather than grown. Each leaf looks hand-paintedโ€”its bold contrast between vein and surface giving it the elegant appearance of fine embroidery. Compact yet commanding, it embodies quiet luxury and timeless tropical beauty.

๐Ÿ’ก Care Tips:

โ˜€๏ธ Light โ€“ Bright, indirect light keeps veins crisp and leaves richly colored. Too much sun may fade or burn the velvety surface.
๐Ÿ’ง Water โ€“ Keep soil evenly moist but not saturated. Allow the top inch (2โ€“3 cm) to dry before watering again. Avoid cold water on roots.
๐ŸŒก๏ธ Humidity โ€“ Thrives in 60โ€“80 % humidity. Benefits from pebble trays, humidifiers, or placement in a cabinet for that signature velvet glow.
๐ŸŒฑ Growth โ€“ Slow to moderate grower; leaves typically reach 6โ€“10 inches (15โ€“25 cm) wide, with a symmetrical heart shape and firm texture.

๐Ÿ“Š Difficulty: Intermediate (sensitive to overwatering and low humidity)
๐Ÿพ Pet Safety: Mildly toxic if ingested; may cause stomach upset. All pets are unique, and symptoms can vary in presentation or severity.

๐ŸŒŸ Collectorโ€™s Tip
Unlike many climbing Anthuriums, clarinervium is a terrestrial species, preferring shallow, well-draining soil rather than deep moss poles. Its roots enjoy airflow, making chunky mixes (bark, perlite, charcoal, sphagnum) ideal. For best color contrast, provide steady light and avoid fertilizer buildup that can dull the leafโ€™s matte finish.
